Today, you are set free. You no longer have to imagine abstract images as reality. If you like doing it then more power to you, but you don’t have to. You can accept the abstract for what it is, abstract. No longer do you have to twist your head and squint your eyes to make that blob into a horse or a face, a dragon, tree, cloud, sky, water, flowers. If it helps you, then go ahead, but it’s not a prerequisite.
Imagine you’re at a high-end party. Your hard of hearing and someone comes over, shakes your hand and says something in your ear and smiles. You didn’t understand them but you don’t want to tell them that you’re hard of hearing so you nod and smile back. Even though you don’t know what they said you feel that whatever they told you was meant to be good. This is an abstract painting. You may not know what is being said but it still makes you feel good.
The bottom line about abstract art. Ask yourself this: Do I like it? If the answer is yes, then nothing else matters. If no, then the art you are looking at isn’t worth your time. Move on with your life.
